GoDaddy Website Builder Review - Mainly Blogging

I’m sure you have heard of GoDaddy Website Builder and perhaps, wondering how it works or how convenient it is. On this post, we review the website builder from GoDaddy.

GoDaddy is an American internet domain registrar and web hosting company. They are commonly known  for their cheap products on the first year. The company has about 17 million registered customers (recorded on May 2017) and over sixty thousand (6,000) employees worldwide.

Moving right along, the website builder has three (3) packages with different features that will suit everyone. These packages are ideal for an individual or business that wants to create a professional website. The great thing about this GoDaddy website builder how beginner friendly it is. I mean, even if you know nothing about website development or don’t have any coding skills, you can still design a professional website.

Bloggers and Beginners should keep this in mind before buying the GoDaddy Website Builder.

For those who are want to be bloggers, I would recommended that they try WordPress or Google’s Blogger platform. WordPress and Blogger are the commonly used CMS for blogging and as for the website builder from GoDaddy… Not so much! By so saying, I mean it’s not a good idea to consider these packages if you want to create or design a blog.

Keep this in mind: A website consists of a static front page (a blog can have one too). The front page may have the services and/or products offered by a company or business. Also, a website has pages only (not posts or categories). A blog on the other hand, has pages, categories, posts and each post has its own link.

The website builder has three plans, namely: The personal plan, business plan and developer’s plan (or business plus plan). GoDaddy allows you to try any of their website builder plans for a whole month without paying. However, if you choose this offer, you will miss out on the first year discounts.

GoDaddy Website Builder Tools - Mainly Blogging

The personal plan doesn’t have enough features, but is great for portfolio kind of sites and so on. Its original cost is R74.99 ($5.99) per month and has the following features:

  • Free domain with annual plan
  • 50 personal themes
  • Unlimited pages
  • 1GB of disk space
  • 150GB of bandwidth
  • Business email from Office 365, free for 1st year
  • 24/7 Customer support
  • The ability to create a blog **New

The business plan has better features compared to the personal plan. A great plan for new and upcoming businesses. Its original cost is R123.99 ($9.99) per month and has the following features:

  • Free domain with annual plan
  • 300 business & personal themes
  • Site with unlimited pages
  • 10 GB disk space
  • 500 GB bandwidth
  • Business email from Office 365, free for 1st year
  • Mobile site
  • 24/7 Customer Support
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • SSL Certificate
  • Paypal Integration

The business plus plan has great features and I recommend it (if you have an established business). Its original cost is R186.99 ($14.99) per month and has the following features:

  • Free domain with annual plan
  • 300 business & personal themes
  • Pages are unlimited
  • 50 GB disk space
  • 1 000 GB bandwidth
  • Business email from Office 365, free for 1st year
  • Mobile site
  • Search engine optimization
  • One-click social media manager (Social media integration)
  • SSL Certificate, free for 1st year
  • PayPal Integration
  • Email marketing
  • Globally optimized speed
  • 24/7 customer support

Features Summary

The personal plan is good for small businesses and is cost effective. However, the personal plan lacks an important feature and what’s that feature? You ask? Well, it is not mobile friendly. The business plan is mobile friendly with great features like more bandwidth, disk space and themes.

Lastly! The developer plan has more features like search engine optimization, social media manager and a free SSL certificate. Even though it has SEO, I advise you not to count on it that much. I once bought a WordPress Deluxe (hosting plan) at GoDaddy (with SEO included). Guess what? It didn’t work! and kept loading forever.

A bit of what happened… I managed to pass step one (Website/Blog’s name). On step two, I had to choose a category (of which I did) and I clicked submit! but it kept loading forever. Even after I used three different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Maxthon Cloud) it kept loading.

As you see from the three plans mentioned above none of them have unlimited bandwidth. Which is a bad thing for me! However, I think one can increase the bandwidth on his/her website builder dashboard (I suggest you ask GoDaddy first about this).

GoDaddy Website Builder – Dashboard

The dashboard has a tool that shows your site’s statistics (Visitors, Top 5 referrers and Top 5 locations). It also shows last month and average visitors stats.

On your right you can choose to edit your site, check SEO status, Connect site to social media, manage your backup and change your theme.

GoDaddy Website Builder – Customizing Your Website

You can easily design your website on desktop. There’s a menu (after clicking edit site) where you can choose the things you want to include in your website. ‘Things‘ as in text, images, links, background image and so on. At the top (on your right) there’s a drop down menu and a Preview and Publish buttons. When done designing your website you have to click publish or you will lose any changes you made on your website.
